THE JOHN FORD TROUP

The John Ford Troup was a cast of regular players that director John Ford liked to use on his movies. Consequently as you watch many of the older Wayne films, you will note the same actors appearing in each. Wayne and Ford worked together 31 times on projects

While it will be impossible to list and show all members of the Ford troup here, the few shown are predominant in numerous Wayne films.

VICTOR McLAGLEN

Victor McLaglen was a familiar site in Ford movies since 1928. From a top Kick Army Sgt. in all of the Calvary trilogy westerns with Wayne, to the Quiet Man, playing the watchfull brother of Maureen O'hara. McLaglen held his own on screen with Wayne, and was an Oscar winning actor.

HARRY CAREY JR

On the right is a more recent photo, but if the picture on the left seems familiar, Harry Carey Jr. played in Ten movies with John Wayne. His father, Harry Carey Sr. was a widely known early film actor and a hero to John Wayne. In the Movies, SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS, and ANGEL AND THE BADMAN, Wayne performed with him. A close friendship was built between Wayne and the entire Carey family.

BEN JOHNSON

Ben Johnson you may recognize in either of these pictures, as he performed with Wayne numerous times throughout his career. From the early calvary movies to CHISM and THE TRAIN ROBBERS, Johnson was a fixture in many of John Waynes movies. Starting out as a stuntman, Johnson quickly won the attention of John Ford and became a dual purpose actor. Sadly, Mr. Johnson passed on recently. He will be missed.

PAUL FIX

Paul Fix acted in 25 movies with John Wayne. More than any other actor. From 3 GIRLS LOST, to CAHILL U.S. MARSHAL, Fix popped up as bad guys, good guys, or even crazy loons. Fix became more widely recognized when he jumped to television in the late 1950's. On the TV series, The RIFLEMAN, Fix played Sheriff Micah Torrance.

These few people only begin to scratch the surface of the Ford and subsequent Wayne Troop of regular actors. Additonal names will be added in future updates.
